Abstract

Two integrated approaches to Lifetime Prediction are discussed. These are the Corrosion Based Design Approach (CBDA) and the Location for Analysis Matrix (LAM). These integrated approaches provide a framework for approaching the prediction and assurance of life in engineering environments. The CBDA-LAM approach provides a framework within which orderly predictions can be developed and assessed. The CBDA involves 10 steps for prediction:

The LAM provides a framework of locations, where conditions for accelerated degradation are most intense, to be compared with the modes of failure which can occur at these locations.
