Like most other power generating systems based on transforming heat into electrical power, the nuclear industry systems are complex and subjected to corrosive environments, high temperatures, and high pressures. However, the critical handling of nuclear radiation on top of other materials problems has put an enormous social on owners and operators of nuclear power plants. Additionally the burial of spent fuel that has accumulated over the past decades of nuclear power production is another aspect of the industry that has attracted tremendous research and political attention in recent years.
