Ni-H and NiMH batteries make extensive use of fuel cell technology. The hydrogen is stored under pressure in the Ni-H cell and in a hydrogen-absorbing alloy (able to store up to 1000 times its own volume) in the Ni-MH cell. nickel hydrogen batteries are high pressure and the cell case is usually ovoidal in shape. They are most commonly used in space applications, where their ability to charge and discharge quickly and often is their greatest asset.
