This is another contender in the rechargeable power technology. It is essentially the same as the NiCd system, with environmentally acceptable, lighter weight and cheaper Zn replacing the Cd. Several decades of research have been devoted to resolving the problem related to poor cycle life of the zinc electrode. An American company claims having achieved 600 cycles to an 80% depth of discharge, so this system may be commercialized in the near future.
