The Mars Pathfinder Lander Battery - 14.5 kg, 27 volts, 50 Ah - was launched in the upside-down position on a Delta II Launch Vehicle on December 4th, 1996. It landed on Mars on July 4th, 1997 and provided electrical power to the lander for the duration of the mission. The Mars Pathfinder Lander Silver Zinc Battery was a recharged via the Lander's Solar Arrays. (reference)
