The Øresund Fixed Link, the world's largest cable-stayed bridge between Denmark and Sweden that has been in the making for over 100 years. It is a reunion of two lands separated since 1658 when Sweden conquered Scania, southern Sweden, from Denmark.

The Øresund Bridge was opened on Saturday July 1 2000, in the presence of Denmark's Queen Margrethe, Sweden's King Carl Gustaf and 10,000 invited guests. During the inauguration ceremony, which was watched by hundreds of millions of TV viewers across the world, four bridge builders from the Øresund project greeted the Queen and King on the bridge in a symbolic meeting to mark the completion of 5 years' construction work.
