Corrosion Glossary - Q

  • Quad: a measure of energy equivalent to a quadrillion (a million times a million times one thousand, or 1015) British thermal units (Btu).
  • Quality control: all aspects of the control of the spraying process including the surface preparation, spraying, control of thickness deposited and the oxide and porosity levels, surface finish and NDE checks as specified.
  • Quenching: rapid cooling. in the heat treating of metals, the step of cooling metals rapidly in order to obtain desired properties; most commonly accomplished by immersing the metal in oil or water.
